Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Associate’s Degree Required. Degree must be in Early Childhood, Family Studies, or an Education related field.
  • One or two years of related experience also required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate the parent involvement component of the Head Start program.

 

  • Develop written plans, procedures, and accompanying documents that support the systems in parent involvement.

 

  • Organize and assist in the facilitation of monthly parent meetings at the Hitchcock site.

 

  • Document in-kind generated from parent meetings and other parent related activities.

 

  • Provide volunteer orientation to families and community partners in Head Start.

 

  • Produce and distribute the monthly parent calendar and newsletter.

 

  • Work in the classroom each day as a Teacher Aide to an assigned classroom. Including but not limited to setting up and implementing activities, prepare learning center activities, participate in indoor and outdoor activities with the children, supervising and eating with the children during meals and following all required classroom policies and procedures.

 

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well being of the children at all times.

 

  • Assist with setting up the classroom room using bulletin boards, children’s work, pictures, and other materials.

 

  • Assist in guiding children’s behaviors and working appropriately with those children that have challenging behaviors. Ensure that all discipline concerns are handled promptly and in accordance with Head Start and District policies and procedures.

 

  • Perform morning and afternoon duty by monitoring and supervising the children upon arrival and departure.
