Primary Purpose:

Patrols district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism.  Officers will enforces all laws including municipal and county ordinances as well as state laws.  Must be able to work independently and use common sense and knowledge to solve problems.

 

Qualifications/Education/Certification:

  1. High School diploma or GED; and
  2. Current Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).  No person whose TCOLE license has been suspended, revoked or permanently voluntarily surrendered will be considered.
  3. Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record; and
  4. Must be eligible to be bonded as required by Texas Education Code Section 37.09(h); and
  5. Must submit fingerprints to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to access Texas and Federal criminal history record information through the DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse of Texas pursuant to Texas Government Code Chapter 411; and
  6. Prospective applicants must pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, written test, physical agility test, physical exam, and a drug screen.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Ability to interpret and apply new and established regulations, rules, policies, and procedures.
  2. Ability to work effectively, courteously, and professionally with students, parents, staff, and the general public in a diverse cultural environment and in situations involving the maintenance of law and order.
  3. Ability to think clearly and respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, including the ability to apply emergency first aid/CPR techniques.
  4. Physical ability to perform tasks and functions that may be hazardous and unpredictable.
  5. Ability to speak in front of large crowds.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Patrol assigned campus(es) and routes (walking or driving) within district jurisdiction.
  2. Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations, accidents, and reports of crime.
  3. Investigate all criminal offenses that occur within district's jurisdiction.
  4. Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.
  5. Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.
  6. Write effective legal incident reports.
  7. Testify in court as needed.
  8. Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.
  9. Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.
  10. Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.
  11. Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.

  • Able to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously
  • May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations 
  • Work outdoors in varying climate conditions
  • Drive in all different areas of district at odd hours; on call 24 hours a day 

Experience: Background in law enforcement or related work experience

 

Salary:  Pay Grade CP6 on a 226-day work calendar. Pay range is from $20.32 - $29.53/hour.  Pay is commensurate upon experience.
